I would like to say that a quality speedy clutch fitting service was my idea but to be honest it was just a natural
progression of the vehicle repair service that myself and business partner Colin Garner started in the very early eighties, both City & Guilds trained mechanics myself and Colin left working for franchised dealer's in 1981, myself
it was Tom Garners formely at Olympia Deansgate, Colin it was Ashton Lyne Motors.
We came across the idea whilst operating a repair workshop in VG House Stalybridge, a mechanic who worked nearby had the idea of a fixed price clutch replacement on the vehicles of the day, Cortinas, 120y's, Alpines Etc but after completing one a day before dinner, he used to disappear, helping the local pub landlord achieve his ambitions. We had the odd customer of his wondering around with cash in his pocket and car needing a clutch. Run it in here sir, and so we entered the Clutch Replacement Business.
In 1988 we moved to Chester Square, primarily a car sales site but we kept the clutch replacement running as well. We actually advertised "Speedy Service" but customers asked is that Speedy Clutch? they liked the name and so did we, Speedy Clutch was born.
in 1998 we decided a larger premises was needed and moved to our Hive Street, Hollinwood workshop dedicated totally to clutch replacement which was to be our base until we moved again in 2005. Having quickly outgrown even this facility.
On 1st April 2005 we made our move to our present site at 373 Abbeyhills Road, Oldham, a wholly owned site of 1/3 acre devoted totally to clutch replacement.
